Hero Insecticide Labeled for Use on Soybeans

We recently were notified that the label for the insecticide Hero (FMC Corporation) has been expanded to include control of insects that infest soybeans. The active ingredients for Hero are the pyrethroids zeta-cypermethrin (the same active ingredient as in Mustang) and bifenthrin (the same active ingredient as in Capture). The list of insect pests of soybeans on the Hero label is long, but it includes such notable pests as bean leaf beetle, grasshoppers, green cloverworm, Japanese beetle adults, soybean aphid, stink bugs, and twospotted spider mites, among many others. Rates of application range from 2.6 to 10.3 oz per acre, depending on the target insect. Consult the label for the rates of application for the insect to be controlled, as well as for precautions and restrictions. The preharvest interval for soybeans treated with Hero is 21 days.--Kevin Steffey
