Hero Insecticide Receives Federal Label

On March 12, 2007, FMC Corporation informed us that Hero insecticide had received federal approval for use against several insect pests of importance in field crops, and recently we learned that the Illinois state label for Hero also has been approved. The active ingredients of Hero are zeta-cypermethrin and bifenthrin, both pyrethroids.

Hero is currently labeled for control of several insects that infest corn and vegetables. Of significance in Illinois is the registration for Hero for control of the following pests at the designated rates:

The efficacy of this product has been confirmed in university trials for a few insects, particularly in soybeans (for which the insecticide currently is not labeled), but information is limited for control of all of the insects indicated on the label. Check with your local FMC Corporation representative for more specific information about the availability and use of the product. As always, please read label precautions and restrictions before using any pesticide.--Kevin Steffey
