Injunction Prevents Planting Glyphosate-Resistant Alfalfa Seed

A lawsuit pending in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California has implications for farmers who may have wanted to plant a glyphosate-resistant alfalfa variety this spring. A preliminary injunction issued by the judge in the case has halted the planting of glyphosate-resistant alfalfa seed past March 30, 2007. Any glyphosate-resistant alfalfa planted prior to this deadline can continue to be harvested and used. This preliminary injunction will likely remain in effect until a final verdict is reached.
