New Western Corn Rootworm Fact Sheet "Under Construction"

July 31, 2003

As the variant western corn rootworm that lays its eggs in crops other than soybeans expands its range in Illinois, many people have been seeking updated information from the University of Illinois. Currently we have a fact sheet on our IPM Web site. However, this fact sheet still has most of the original information collected shortly after some research was completed in the late 1990s. Consequently, we are updating the information to make it more relevant for people in more northern and western counties.

Sue Ratcliffe will be overseeing the revisions to the western corn rootworm fact sheet. If you have any useful information regarding the variant western corn rootworm, especially in areas where the variant has become problematic recently, please contact Sue at She hopes to incorporate relevant field information (verified root damage in corn planted after soybeans, captures of beetles on sticky traps, etc.) into the revised version of the fact sheet.--Kevin Steffey
