Is the European Corn Borer an Endangered Species?
European corn borer populations have tended to decline in Illinois in recent years, likely as the result of planting transgenic Bt corn with traits for control of corn borers. Producers need to comply with the recommended non-Bt corn refuges to reduce the potential for the pest to develop resistance to Bt proteins.

Suction Traps Have Captured Very Low Numbers of Soybean Aphids This Fall
Many Illinois fields were sprayed with insecticide to prevent significant yield losses after this summer's outbreak of soybean aphids. The outbreak has been followed by low numbers of winged soybean aphids flying to their overwintering host, buckthorn.
