Alfalfa Weevil Activity Grinds to a Halt

Not surprisingly, the line for 300 accumulated degree-days (base 50°F) did not advance very far north in Illinois from April 3 to April 9. The cold temperatures undoubtedly have slowed or stopped development of alfalfa weevils, and it's possible that some mortality of small larvae may have occurred. We'll probably learn whether this is true only after the temperatures warm up again and alfalfa weevil activity resumes. Be prepared for any eventuality; surviving larvae will be active again very soon.--Kevin Steffey
