New Fungicide Resource Online
Discuss pesticides with those involved in agriculture and they will say they have access to good resources on field crop-oriented herbicides and insecticides. Those interested can secure nuts-and-bolts information, and they can also secure more detail on application methods and modes of action. However, resources are few and far between for fungicides. While nuts-and-bolts information is available, details of fungicide terms, characteristics, application, and mode of action are much more difficult to locate. A new University of Illinois Extension resource should help fill the gap.
Characteristics of Fungicides for Field Crops (RPD 1002) has been added to the collection of "Reports on Plant Diseases." The document addresses foliar and seed treatment applications and limitations, fungicide terminology, resistance management, common fungicide families, and fungicide mode of action. It is intended to supplement the pest biology and treatment recommendations in other U of I Extension publications, such as the Illinois Agricultural Pest Management Handbook, the Field Crop Scouting Manual, and pesticide applicator training manuals.
